Cornell has given me the possibility of joining a lab with great mentors that after some training, allowed me to be a near-autonomous driver of a research project within the lab.
Don’t be discouraged by the feeling that you are not good enough, or that other people are more deserving of a place. There are considerably fewer people from Singapore who apply to Cambridge for degrees like English, but don’t let this stop you from considering a passion subject you would absolutely love to do.
I was fortunate to come from a school that gave good support to Oxbridge applicants but I know a lot of schools don’t so a resource such as this website could be a crucial tool for applicants from these schools. My top tip for the application is be as individual as possible – try to do things that stand out from other candidates, whether that’s unusual work experience, courses or even a project at home!
